“Holy Matrimony”

Atlanta is in an uproar over some marital drama in its local church scene! Leslie can’t ever work on today and she is very distraught about “everybody else’s business” as usual. Let’s check in on them and see what is going on in Buckhead’s Hair By Jacques.

Leslie: Lawd, he walked on her neck!

Marquise: Who chile?

Leslie: My passa. . .

Marquise: Well what kind of healing was yall doing up in there!

Leslie: Well, we all fall short of the glory Marquise . . . and nobody up in here judging you-- bumpin’ and grindin’ with every Tom, DICK ‘n Harry!

Marquise: $!*%^#&!

Jacques: Ladies . . .

Marquise (under his breath): I know “HER” ain’t calling me a lady!

Rock (the barber): All of ‘em are fake! They are pimps and are taking all of yallz money! I used to date a chick that said she was all righteous, but it turned out that she had “that Superhead!”

(The fellas fall out into an abrupt laughter)
(Leslie’s phone rings . . . I’mma Buy You A Drank, Shawty Wanna Roll Wit Me!!!)

Rock to Leslie: Does yall choir sing that Les?

Leslie (As she walks angrily away from Rock, Leslie accidentally puts the phone on speaker): Hello!

Man on the phone: “So what color drawz you got on Les?” (Leslie runs out of the shop)

Rock: See the wanna be good girls are freaks . . . she up in the shop everyday keeping up all kind of confusion and asking us to come to her “set” every Sunday and her Passa chin checking his old lady. Now she got “old dude” on the phone asking her what color drawz she has on! THEY ARE FAKE! ALL OF ‘EM!

(Rock’s clients are agreeing with him and dapping each other off)

Jacques to Rock: If you don’t mind me asking, why are you so bitter towards organized religion? It is just not Leslie’s church you are angry with every religious conversation that we have in here. I don’t understand . . .

(Rock throws down his clippers and runs out of the shop!)
(Jacques seeing that he struck a nerve-- runs behind Rock to see what is going on.)

--Here is a little bit of information! If you did not know Jacques (who’s real name is “John Cooper”) is really not from France, he is from Louisville. Jacques moved to Atlanta to get out of redneck Kentucky and to start a new life. Well, then “John” lived on Bankhead Hwy. and worked at a liquor store to make ends meet. Robert, whom we now know as Rock, used to sell “herbal refreshments” right outside the liquor store where “John” worked. Because of a mutual appreciation of “herbal refreshments” they became friends. “John’s” only good memory of Louisville is his family’s church and the good times that he had there. Robert also expressed a relationship with God with “John” and that brought them closer as friends. Robert used to tell “John” that he had a Barber license and “John” told Robert that he too was a stylist and that we wanted to get out of the Bankhead area and open up an upscale shop. As time went on, Robert started selling more than “herbal refreshments,” but Robert did tell “John” that if he ever went to jail, take his “stash” and invest it. The only requirement is that “John” changes his name and where he was from and put the money in under his new identity and Robert would find him when he gets out from his jail deposit records. Well just that happened, and when Robert got out of jail he did find “John” in a new salon. One side was for styling hair and the other was an unopened barber shop waiting on Robert to come and claim it. The rest is history!--

Jacques (John): What’s up with you? You trippin’! For what?

Rock (Robert): Remember when we were back on the block and I used to tell you about my love of church and how my Pastor was counseling me and was about to show me how to get a Small Business loan to open a Barber Shop.

Jacques: Yes I remember that . . .

Rock: Well my baby brother was raped by one of the deacons in that church and when my “Grams” told the Pastor he did nothing. Not too long after that my baby brother killed himself.

(Rock walks away and gets in his car and drives off)
(Jacques stands there in amazement)

“I’mma Flirt”

The church and the bar-room have collided in Altanta’s prestigious ‘Hair By Jacques’ Leslie and the clan is in an uproar over My Space, back-to-school clothes, church gossip and the music industry! Let’s see what is going on . . .

Hennessy (a very rich, yet ‘boughetto’ client of Jacques): I am reading Shereese Hair & Beauty Magazine and there is a superb article about Teen Issues and this Winfred person mentions something about My Space. My daughter, Dasani, is on that all of the time. My husband and I just don’t understand.

Jacques: When did he return from his European business trip?

(Before Hennessy can answer Jacques)

Leslie to Hennessy: Chile I thought he was in jail!

Hennessy: Hell no! (to Leslie as Hennessy continues her sentence) Jacques, you must stop letting your help speak so frequently! She is obnoxious!

Leslie: WELL! My ‘passa’ said that My Space is a direct vein to the devil and that we should not let our kids on it ‘cause of all of the “fro-no-graphy” and stuff!

Jacques: What is “fro-no-graphy” Leslie?

Leslie: You know--naked people!

(Marquise, the male stylist, enters the shop singing, “I’mma Flirt”)

Leslie: I can’t stand that song and why are you in such a good mood!

Marquise: Well, I was at Lenox Mall and Mr. R. Kelly was there signing autographs at FYE and I just shook his hand. I melted like butter. It is too bad that, “R” as I like to call him, is on the other team because I would let him “stick his key into my ignition!”

Hennessy: Excuse me young man! I don’t like that kind of conversation I am the wife of a Missionary! I am offended!

(Jacques is furious and is giving Marquise the evil eye as he calms Hennessy down)

Marquise (tells his first client): I don’t know what is wrong with her because if she really wants to know I can tell her about her hubby and the missionary! Ya feel me! Don’t get me started all up and through here!

(Marquise and his client high fives each other)

Jacques (to Hennessy): So Madame what are you doing when you leave my beautiful shop on this lovely afternoon. (Trying to act as if nothing happened.)

Hennessy: Well Jacques, I am going to pickup Dasani and go to Phipps Plaza and do a little school shopping.

(Leslie overhearing)

Leslie: Ms. Hennessy, did I hear you say Phipps Plaza?! What kind of school is she going to? My little Shaniqua is going right there to Rainbow and we are going to spend the usual $300 on her clothes and Payless is the BEST for shoes!

Hennessy: Well I never!

Leslie: “And you probably never will, shopping a Phipps for a 10 year old!”

Jacques (forgetting his French accent completely): LESLIE THAT IS ENOUGH! I WANT YOU TO APOLOGIZE TO MS. HENNESSY RIGHT NOW DAMMIT!

Leslie: Sorry . . . (as she rolled her eyes)

Albert (a new customer waiting to get his haircut): Jacques, if I did know any better I would swear that your accent indicates that you from Louisville, Kentucky!

Jacques (coughing heavily trying to get his composure): No! J’habite Cannes! I mean I am from Cannes, France. . .

Albert: “Well I have to use the CAN too!”

Hennessy (calling Corinne the receptionist to pay for her hair): Corinne! Bring my Gucci and find out from Jacques how much I own him so I may leave immediately!

(Corinne knows Hennessy’s husband all too well actually they were an “issue” no too long ago. Well, what Hennessy does not know is Corinne and her husband is on the phone when he comes to pick his wife up and Corinne sees him pull up.)

(Corinne thinks, “that bastard did not tell me he was married!”)

Marquise (walks up to the front to get some fresh air in between clients): Corinne, you see that guy sitting in the car in front of the shop? Well, I dated him a month or two ago and that is Ms. Hennessy’s husband! Only if she knew! B@%^!!!!!!

(Corinne gets weak and by this time Hennessy has walked up to the reception area. Corinne’s faint like statue has the waiting clients in a panic.)

Hennessy: Darling are you okay?

“A Case Of The Award Show Blues!”

Shop Talk
“Another Hurricane Creation”

“A Case Of The Award Show Blues!”

Atlanta’s Hair by Jacques is booming with business on this hot steamy Georgia night. The aftermath a “certain network’s” Award Show is the topic around the whole shop! Let’s see what they are chatting about!

Danielle (the nail tech): Girl she looked a hot mess!

Leslie (the shampoo girl taking a undeserved break): Who chile?

Danielle: You know the Mama from the Parkers!

Leslie: Girl didn’t it look like Hurricane Katrina came back and went straight under her dress! And she didn’t not know the words to that Beyonce’ song! She is wrong for that--with that played out dance routine. She did that in ’04!

Jacques (speaking in his distinctive French accent): Ladies, ladies, stop being so judgmental. Just because she is, what do you American’s say, “thick” does not mean she cannot dance.

Danielle: Yo “J” we ain’t being judgemental or nuttin’ but that awards show looked like they needed to put insulin and high blood pressure medicine in the Kool Aide with all of those fat girls in there!

Leslie: Well my Pastor says that gluttony is a sin! Yall need to come and visit the New Vision of Zion & Lilly of the Valley A.M.E. COGIC MBC!

Jacques: “Pardon Moi!” Your church sure has a long name!

Leslie: I just write the name small on my check that I send in!

Danielle: Well your Passa’ is wrong for that AND your Passa’ needs to call Jennifer Hudson and tell her never to wear crème again and to never NOT wear a girdle! She looked like she was stealing bread from Kroger’s and putting it under her dress!

(Everyone laughs!)

Marquise (the “male” stylist): Well I like Diddy! He is just too cute with his fine self, but Keyshia Cole’s booty looked huge with all of that white on!

Rock (the barber yells from the rear of the shop): You just didn’t like her ‘cause she was a girl. The only “booty” you like is the ones with hair on ‘em!

Leslie (under her breath say’s): I know that is the truth and he ain’t the only one! (as she looks towards Jacques)

Jacques: REMEMBER PEOPLE, this shop is exclusive. We must not act like we are on Cascade Boulevard; this is BUCKHEAD! Plus, I loved the tribute to Diana Ross she was one of my role models as a child!

Leslie: Lawd, the gay in here is getting thicker by the minute!

Jacques: Excuse me Leslie!!!

Leslie: (singing) Precious Lawd . . . take my hand!

Danielle: All I am saying is, “Flav” is ugly, “T.I.” is a little touched in the head, “T-Pain” NO COMMENT, “Don Cheadle” looks like a African American troll doll, “Chaka” screams too much, “Patti” too and I want to know what was wrong with “Erykah’s” crotch! She looked like she was giving birth and the head popped out! I just don’t know what they are going to do next year . . .

“What’s Face Got To Do With It?”

"Shop Talk"
"Another Hurricane Creation"

Hair by Jacques located in Atlanta's prestigious Buckhead area has seen many, many, clients. Some of Atlanta's most famed citizens has had the opportunity to be styled by the world famous Jacques Cherenfant, who hails from France, so he says, but really from Louisville, Kentucky and his name is John Cooper! Shhhh, don't tell anybody. Anyway, here are the chronicles of some of his clients. . .

Darriel G.: Hey Jacques, what's up with you this week?

JC: (In his heavy French accent) Nothing chile, just busy and trying to---as you Americans say, "get my hustle on!" (Laughter breaks out)

Darriel G.: Well my cousin was in ATL for a convention this weekend and we got into a serious argument.

JC: What about?

Darriel G.: Well you know since the divorce, everyone thinks that I need to jump right back in and get a man. My cuz' said he wants to hook me up with one his "professional" friends.

JC: I am waiting for you to tell me the problem!

Darriel G: I looked his friend up on My Space and he looks like Grimace, you remember the McDonald's character.
JC: I do! (he laughs so hard he has to go and get water)
Leslie (the shampoo girl): (says in a suspicious tone) "Did they have McDonalds in Paris, Jacques?"

JC: (Says with an attitude) "Oui, Madmoiselle"

Leslie: "Whatever!" "With his lying a#%!" she tells her client. "Girl, I think he is from right there on Bankhead Highway. (Both of them snicker under their breath)

Darriel G.: My cousin tells me that he has a Master's degree and he will be a good provider, but when I look at Grimace, I start itching. I just don't think that I could love a man or be intimate with him regardless of how many degrees that he has.

Leslie: (whispering to her client) "From what I hear her a#% is intimate with anybody!!!" "She might be itching because she has that GANGSTA!"

JC: Sometimes looks does not matter, I mean he very well may be your knight in shining armor. I remember when I met this young lady in my travels to the South of France named Michelle. Even thought she wasn't too, how do you say, attractive, we had the most wonderful conversation and actually made love in the grass right along the French countryside.

Leslie: (whispering, yet again) "Did he say a girl?"

Client: (whispering back) "Yes he did!"

Leslie: "He really means, a dude named Michael and they hooked up in the backyard at his childhood crib on Bankhead Highway!"

(Both ladies scream with laughter!!!)

JC: Leslie, is there a problem?!

Leslie: No Jacques, we were talking about Sis. Bertha-Lee's solo at our church's revival last night! (lying with a straight face)
Darriel G.: Well that is what my best friend told me, but I just can't stomach him! Plus, Grimace is a football coach and I wouldn't be any good company with that! I don't understand grown a#% men who are trying to live out their high school days by being high school or college football coaches!

Leslie: (listening very hard) Amen, girl . . . amen!!!!!

JC: (whispering) remind me to find another Shampoo girl! (then he goes back to his regular tone) Well, my dear, you are truly in a pickle . . .
